It is said in this tunnel that even today the spirit of the engineer who had committed suicide in front of the tunnel exists there. The name of the tunnel is the Barog tunnel which is also known as Tunnel no.33, which is 1143.61 in length, near the Barog railway station on the Tunnel Kalka Shimla Railway route. It was built in the 20th century and it is the world's highest ladder tunnel and the train take 2.5 mins to cross the tunnel. In British period Colonel Barog was the engineer who was responsible for the construction of this tunnel. That time people used to use large mirrors and acetylene gas for cutting the mountains.Colonel Barog, who was in charge og Tunnel No.33 committed a mistake of boringn the tunnel from both ends of the mountain, which is quite common as it speeds up construction. The labour was divided in halves, which started the digging and blasting the tunnel from opposite ends. The Colonel instructed the crew members to bore the tunnel according to his calculations with a vision that both the tunnels would meet in the middle to become a single tunnel. The workers kept on boring the from both ends, but did not meet even after crossing the center of the mountain. After some time, the workers became hopeless and began doubting the decisions on colonel Barog. The Colonel also realized that due to his miscalculations, the alignments of the tunnels were wrong, and both the ends of the tunnel could not meet.

British government force a penalty of 1rupee on the colonel Barog for wasting the money of the govenment. Due to which the engineer got bothered to take this and one day he took his dog and went out to roam and shot himself. This tunnel is known today as a screaming tunnel. At the place where the engineer shot himself, now the barog pinewood hotel is there .Body of engineer with blood stained was there for several hours when he shot himself. Only his dog is presented there when he shot himshelf. So the british government decided to buried the body of barong in front of the tunnel.

Then in 1808 the tunnel is again started to build and it became completed in 1858. The british government name the tunnel as barog on the name of the engineer barog. The completion of building the tunnel is done by H.S Harlicton and he is helped by sant baba balkhu and for building this tunnel the money used is 8.5 lakhs. According to local people of Shimla now also the spirit of the engineer Barog was there and in the midnight he is roaming with his dog in the tunnel some people say that they listen the sound of someone screaming inside the tunnel. even if switch off all the lights of the tunnel the situation inside the tunnel is very much haunted.

when we go somehow inside the tunnel for some distance we can find a another small cave and you can listen a weird sounds. even government of India put a metal door to close that cave but after somedays the local people found that door outside the tunnel.
