Malcha Mahal, New Delhi....the haunted palace

We won't forget the setup Ram Gopal Verma has created for Darna Mana Hai. The dark forest and people go missing. Now, what if we say we have a similar place in Delhi, Malcha Mahal, which is one of the haunted places in India.

The palace is located within thick forestry behind the Buddha garden. It has a legacy of anguish and death. There are many accounts of people going in for a thrill, but coming out scared and shaken, or never even coming out at all, as in the case of some missing one. Malcha Mahal is also known as Bistdari Mahal.

The story dates back to the time of India's freedom when the Malcha Mahal had lost all its glory. Begum Wilayat Mahal found a unique way to protest. Now, this palace is occupied by two members of a royal family of Oudh, Prince Riaz and Princess Sakina, children of Begum Wilayat Mahal.

Begum was the granddaughter of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Oudh. When Nawab Wajid Ali Shah dethroned and his property was seized by the Britishers, Begum started to fight with Indian Government for their property to have that back.

She along with her two children and a dog confined herself to the VIP lounge of Railway Station in Delhi for 9 years. That's when the Government decided to give them the palace back. But sadly, by that time the palace didn't provide all the luxuries that it used to. This was surely not less than the ghostly place for human being full of lizards, snakes, bats and other insects. They began their life totally being separated from the outer world. They are living without electricity or equipments of modern world. People outside the palace didn't see them after a long time too. All these created a lot of queries about them. On December 10,1993 Begum committed suicide. After her death, her children couldn't bury her. The begum's dead body was placed on the study desk for 10 days. In the meantime, her children slept with her dead body too.

People believed inside the palace, there are a lot of treasures. Royal family hides from everybody. Later, it is known they are living poorly, a miserable life. Nothing is there as haunted. But still the palace looks like haunted place. Now, the entrance is apparently guarded by a couple of dogs.
